“For the greater good” is one of those sayings governments use when usually doing something we would not like, a bit like “not in the public interest”!
The meaning behind the words is ‘ a general advantage that you can only gain by losing or harming something that is considered less important.’
But who decides what is or who is less important?
Our Politicians of course!
We gave them that right the day we put our X next to their name, such is the way our Democratic system works.
And all the petitions in the world change it!
The country voted Labour in on promises, they have just had a reset….more promises, re-worded promises. Promises for the ‘greater good’! Only the ‘greater’ in this instance is the great conglomerates, and we will have to wait nearly 5yrs before we get any chance to judge them.
Or do we?
It is for the ‘greater good’ of England that Westminster deems Scotland to be less important.
Sometimes fate deals us a different hand and 2026 is one of those times.

The only limits we have are those in our head.
2026 can get us over the line, if and only if we can unite as one and vote in a Pleblicite election for the same thing whatever the strapline may be.
Christmas is nearly upon us, so as I close down this blog until the New Year, let us take time to reflect upon what could be….not what is!
What Scotland could be in our own hands, a Scotland where you could make the big decisions and no one is less important!

A very Merry Christmas to you and yours Joan. Enjoy your well earned rest. I look forward to reading your incisive articles in the new year.
